Estherville – Funeral services for Elmer Henningsen, 81, of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 20, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. He died on Wednesday, January 15 at his farm home, Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 19 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born on January 28, 1915 in Dolliver, the son of Edward and Emma Henningsen. He received his education in Dolliver and in a country school near Dunnell, Minn. At the age of 20 he moved with his parents to a farm in Iowa. He farmed with his father until 1942. He was united in marriage to Vera Gillett on April 22, 1942 in Liberty, Mo. After their marriage, the couple moved to Moline, Ill., where he was employed in a defense plant. In 1944, they moved to Estherville where he held various jobs. They moved to a farm southwest of Estherville in 1949 and farmed until his retirement in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Vera of Estherville; one daughter, Cheryl Black of Arnolds Park; one son, Bruce Henningsen of Estherville; two grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Sundahl of Arizona. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 17, 1997)
