Death at 83 for Charles E. Heidecker
Charles Heidecker, 83, of Los Angeles, Calif., former long-time resident of Wallingford and Estherville, died unexpectedly Saturday [March 5, 1966] at 7 a.m. at his home [Los Angeles County]. Mr. Heidecker’s death was attributed to pneumonia. He had been ill only a few days.

His son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Spaulding, of Estherville, who had left Los Angeles last Monday after visiting their son, Paul, and Mr. and Mrs. Heidecker for more than two weeks, report that although Mr. Heidecker was ill for a few days with the flu while they were there he was feeling “fine” when they left. They learned of his death a half hour after arriving home Saturday afternoon.

Charles Ernest Heidecker, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heidecker, was born Feb. 25, 1883, at Katenhund, Germany. He came to the United States with his parents when he was five years old, the family settling near Hartley. He received his education in the Palo Alto and Emmet county country schools.

He was married Sept. 25, 1908, to Hilda Kasa of Wallingford. She died Feb. 22, 1919.

Mr. Heidecker was married Dec. 26, 1924, to Louise Merklin. He had worked in the hardware store and postoffice at Wallingford for 25 years and was employed by Emmet County for several years before retiring in 1948. He and Mrs. Heidecker moved from Wallingford to Estherville in 1942. After living here for 10 years they moved to Los Angeles.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. W.J. (Pearl) Spaulding of Estherville, three sons, Francis of Graettinger, Orville of Estherville and Ronald of Spirit Lake; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Heidecker of Sibley; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Crammond of Miami, Fla.

Mr. Heidecker’s body is being flown to Estherville where funeral arrangements at Fuhrman Funeral Home are pending word from Francis Heidecker of Graettinger. He and his wife were en route to Los Angeles to visit his father and Mrs. Heidecker. They left Graettinger Friday and this morning relatives here had been unable to contact them.
