Roy Harris
Superior – Services for Roy Harris, 84, of Superior will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Don E. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Estherville. Visitation will be at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Harris died Friday, October 8[5], 1990 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Roy William Harris was born January 2, 1906 in Ayrshire, Iowa to Edgar and Maggie (Mason) Harris. Roy moved with his family from Rodman to Estherville as a young boy. After completing his education in the Rodman and Estherville schools, he moved with his family to a farm south of Dunnell, Minnesota. On January 21, 1933 Mr. Harris married Amelia Harvego at Motley, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Dunnell in the Lake Fremont Township for four years, in Lake Belt Township near Lakefield, Minnesota for seven years, and in 1951 purchased a farm in Ellsworth Township in Emmet County. In 1964 the couple moved to the Superior area. For thirteen years Roy trucked grain for area farmers, sold registered Hampshires and Trojan Seed Corn. He was a member of the Superior United Methodist Church and Emmet County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife Amelia of Superior; four sons: Harlan Harris of Haywarden Ronald Harris and Leeland, both of rural Estherville, and Robert Harris of Story City; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Karen) Ayers of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Peterson of Austin, Minnesota and Mrs. Gladys Sidles of Graettinger; twenty-five grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1990)
