Estherville – Services for Mrs. Andrew (Susie) Handeland, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Stan Eyberg officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Monday, Sept. 26, 1983 at the Good Samaritan Center.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Susie C. Matheson was born Sept. 6, 1893 at Bancroft, the daughter of Henry and Sena (Larson) Matheson. She attended rural Kossuth County schools. On Jan. 1, 1914 she was united in marriage with Andrew Handeland at Armstrong. The couple lived in Estherville, then farmed in Armstrong, Gruver and Dolliver areas until 1949 when they moved back into Estherville. She has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since 1978.

Mrs. Handeland was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, Elizabeth Circle and Good Samaritan Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Lester C. Handeland, Ringsted; six daughters: Mrs. Clarence (Lilliam) Schroeder, Welcome, Minn., Mrs. A.C. (Hazel) Cuff, Mrs. Carsten (Edna) Emerson, and Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Steele all of Minneapolis, Mrs. Arnold M. (Alice) Olson and Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Birkland, Ringsted; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Inga Rodham and Mrs. Helen Conner both of Oakland, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Andrew who died in 1966; one son, George and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 28, 1983)
