Mrs. Eliza J. Hale
Mrs. Eliza J. Hale died at 3:45 o’clock Friday [August 25, 1905] afternoon at her home at 1215 East Main street in this city, aged seventy-seven years and twelve day.Mrs. Hale, whose maiden name was Eliza Jane Thom, was born in Scott county, Indiana, August 13, 1828. She was married to Fayette Francis Hale, September 26, 1858. In 1884 the family moved to Minneapolis, where Mr. Hale died October 9, 1894, aged seventy-nine years and thirteen days. Four years ago Mrs. Hale and her son, John, moved to Estherville, which has since been their home. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hale. Two sons, Frank and Henry and three daughters, Mary, Florence, and Ida are dead and only the youngest daughter, Mrs. F.L. Reynolds of Los Angeles, California, and the youngest son, John M. Hale, a carrier in the Estherville postoffice, survive. Mrs. Reynolds is in poor health and was unable to attend the funeral.
The funeral services were held at the residence at 9:30 o’clock Monday morning, being conducted by Rev. Dr. Marion D. Shutter of the Church of the Redeemer (Universalist) of Minneapolis, in which church both Mrs. Hale and her son held membership. The remains were taken to Minneapolis for interment in Lakewood cemetery.
Mrs. Hale was highly respected in this community and during her residence here had made many friends who will be pained to learn of her death. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 30, 1905)
