Estherville – Funeral services for Bernardine Haar, 71, of Estherville will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Rev. Neil Armstrong officiating. Interment will be at the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died July 19 at the Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born on April 14, 1926, in Estherville, the daughter of Willis and Edna (Brown) Wertz. She grew up in Gruver and received her education in the Gruver schools, graduating from Gruver High School. She then attended school in Des Moines.
On August 20, 1950, she was united in marriage to Russell Haar at the First Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minn. After her marriage, the couple farmed north of Estherville until moving into Estherville in 1971. Bernadine was employed at the Villa Motel for 15 years, part of that time as manager. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Gruver.
She is survived by a son, Paul Haar of New Richland, Minn.; a grandson Joseph “Jodey” Haar of New Richaland, Minn.; step-granddaughter Shantel Kathman of Spencer, two great-grandsons; and sister, Barbara Hubbard of Watertown, S.D.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell, her parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 21, 1997)
