Estherville – Funeral services for Lester E. Grems, 92, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. Dr. Linda Kersten officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery. He died on Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services today.

Les was born on Feb. 19, 1910 in Swan Lake, the son of Walter and Susie L. (Brannan) Grems. Les received his education in the Swan Lake and Gruver schools.

On Nov. 30, 1933, Les was united in marriage to Mary Alice Carey. Later, Les was united in marriage to Hazel Emma DeWall on Aug. 26, 1950 at Jackson, Minn. Les has lived most of his life in the Gruver, Spirit Lake and Estherville area.

He was employed by the Northern Lumber Company and the Rock Island Railroad in Gruver, was a farm hand in the area for many years, a maintainer driver for Emmet County and then an electrician for Heidke Electric and Meyer Electric in Estherville from 1957 until his retirement.

Les enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, especially for perch and feeding birds. He also enjoyed wood carving, old steam engines, building and shooting muzzleloaders, gardening, baking and cooking. Less enjoyed socializing at Hardee’s and Paul’s Barbershop.

Les is survived by four sons, Marvin Grems and his wife, Faye of Boone; James Grems and his wife, Lois of Springdale, Ark.; Robert Grems and his wife, Jean of Estherville; Randall Grems and his wife, Becky of Faribault, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and sister, Edna Julius of Estherville and one brother, Merle (Mike) Grems and his wife, Ora of Estherville.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two sons, David in infancy and Mervin and two daughters, Marlyn and Charlene and one brother, William Grems. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 23, 2002)
