Estherville – Services for Arthur W. [Walter] Goede, 81, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Kermit Rye and Pastor Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery with military graveside services by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville. He died Friday, Sept. 10, 1993 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.

He was born March 4, 1912 in Jackson, Minn., the son of Otto and Mary (Wachal) Goede. He attended Jackson School graduating in 1928. He attended normal training school and later attended and graduated from Winona State College with a degree in mathematics. In 1940 he enlisted in the National Guard at Jackson and served during World War II from Feb. 10, 1941 until June 10, 1945. On January 20, 1946 he was united in marriage with Lillian Mellum at Lakefield, Minn. Following marriage he was employed with Peoples Natural Gas Co. in Estherville and was transferred to Cannon Falls and Kasson, Minn. In 1955 he returned to Estherville office and served as bookkeeper until retiring in 1967.

He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church, lifetime member of VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He was also a member of D.A.V. of Milford.

Survivors include his wife Lillian, of Estherville; sons: Walter of Kansas City, Mo. and Myron of Omaha; four grandchildren; a brother Milton of Banning, Calif.; sisters: Verna Gilbertson, Westport, Wash. and Lillian Crageen, Jackson, Minn.; and a daughter-in-law Jennifer Anderson, Estherville.
