Estherville – Services for Ruth J. [Jane] Godsil, 86, of Estherville, will be held Friday, March 3 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Perry and Pastor Richard Godsil officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Monday, February 27, 1995.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born Nov. 11, 1908 in Foose, Mo., the daughter of William and Myrtle (Nelson) Crow. She attended schools in Missouri, Iowa and Illinois. On Feb. 21, 1927 she was united in marriage with Richard A. Godsil at Galesburg, Ill. The couple lived in Galesburg until 1936 when they moved to Burlington. In 1940 they moved to Estherville where he husband worked for the Rock Island Railroad After her children started leaving home, she worked at the Dairy Queen, then she had a café, the Cozy Corner. Later she managed the lunch counter at Woolworth’s until it closed.
Survivors include sons: Richard W. Godsil, Franklin, N.C.; Ralph, of Des Moines and Stan of New Bern, N.C.; daughters: Mrs. Sam (Genevieve) Torrence and Mrs. George Sr. (Kathaleen) Anderson both of Estherville; Shirley Kunath, Lebanon Junction, Ky.; Mrs. Maynard (Anita) Tjepkes, of Chatfield, Minn. and Donna Godsil of Rochester, Minn.; 30 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and also step-grandchilden; brothers: Hubert Crow, Galesburg, Ill., Glen Crow, Mediapolis and Clifford Crow, Burlington; sisters: Irene Trimble of Burlington and Sabbie Miller of Mediapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband who died Oct.11, 1965, five brothers, two sons and two grandsons. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 1, 1995)
