Estherville – Services for Floyd (Red) W. Given, 78, formerly of Estherville, will be held Wednesday, December 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with Rev. Tom Balm officiating. Burial will follow at the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. Mr. Given died Friday, December 22, 1989 at his home in Evansdale, Iowa.

Floyd W. Given was born June 11, 1911 at Ottumwa, Iowa and adopted as a baby.

On January 16, 1937, he married Berniece F. Steele in Waterloo, Ia. After their marriage, the couple lived in Waterloo before moving to Portland, Ore. in 1942 where he worked as a shipbuilder during World War II. They moved to Estherville in 1945. He worked for the Hill Packing Co. for six years before purchasing the Friendly Tavern which he operated for 27 years. His wife died December 8, 1985 and he moved to Evansdale, Iowa a short time later. He was living there at the time of his death. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Given of Evansdale, Iowa and Robert Given of Waterloo, Iowa. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 27, 1989)
