George Geerdes
Mission, Tex. – Service for George Geerdes, 74, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Estherville, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn Bohmer officiating. Interment will be held at the Eastside Cemetery in Estherville. He died Saturday, June 20, 1992 at Mission.

Friends may call the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home Wednesday from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.

He was born July 26, 1917 at George, the son of Ralph and Martha (Groen) Geerdes and attended Everly Schools. He moved with his family to Everly as a young boy. He was united in marriage to Leona Lux on February 16, 1941 at Hartley. The couple farmed in the Hartley-Primghar area for 15 years.

They moved to Estherville in 1957 and George worked for John Morrell & Co. until retiring in 1982. The couple moved to Mission, Tex. in August of 1989 where they were living at the time of George’s death. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in McAllen, Tex., formerly a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, and served on the Board of Directors of the Morrell Employees Credit Union for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Leona, two sons, Jay Geerdes, Highland Park, Ill. and Jerry Geerdes, San Antonio, Tex.; one daughter, Jolene Norviel, Urbandale; one sister, Mrs. Don (Mildred) Larson, Primghar; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 24, 1992)
