Estherville – Services for Ross Virgil Burris, 76, Ashton, formerly of Estherville, will be held at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rv. Tom Balm of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the East Side Cemetery. He died Monday, March 9, 1987 at Sheldon Community Hospital.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born Dec. 22, 1910 at Wapello, the son of William and Minnie (Leeling) Burris. He attended Des Moines North school graduating from high school in 1929. On March 29, 1942 he was united in marriage with Mayry E. Jackson at Sabetha, Kans. He was employed by Automotive Services of Des Moines until entering the United States Army where he served in the European Theatre. After service he returned to Des Moines and in 1950 moved to Estherville where he built, owned and operated the RO-MA Motel. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388 in Estherville.

Survivors include his wife Mayry, Ashton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchilden; one sister, Mrs. Alta McMahan, Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1987)
