Estherville – Services for Mrs. Ethel Burns, 90, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Kunz of First Christian Church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Thursday, July 2, 1987 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.Ethel Mae Mace was born Oct. 28, 1896 at Ottumwa the daughter of Alvin and Sarah (Seward) Mace. She attended Ottumwa public schools. On Feb. 19, 1914 she was united with Lawrence South in Ottumwa. She moved to Estherville in 1919 and married Edwin (Ted) Burns, Dec. 3, 1925 at Jackson, Minn. She was very active in Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary which she joined in 1947 and held five offices.
She was a member of the First Christian Church; Christian Womens’ Fellowship; past president of Service Star; Senior Citizens and an active member in the Rock Island Club.
Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. Eldon (Florence) Tigges, Fairmont, Minn.; Mrs. Roy (Mildred) Christensen and Mrs. Axel (Lucille) Lyon, Estherville and Mrs. Dennis (June) Loewenberg, Escondido, Calif.; two sons: Daryl, and wife Barbara, Burns, Casa Grande, Ariz. and Frederick South, Great Bend, Kans.; 13 grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 6, 1987)
