Dearest mother you have gone from our fireside,
Stilled is your loving heart, patient and brave,
It’s but a few days since you were with us,
But now the birds sing o’er your grave.
Friends and kindred gathered around her,
As in her coffin she lay.
One sad lingering look they gave her
Weeping o’er her lifeless clay.
She is roaming with the angels bright
That tread the other shore,
They took her from our home and sight,
With us to dwell no more.
