Regina E. (Ammons) Farris, the daughter of Ray and Clara (McWilliams) Ammons was born on Wednesday; December 14, 1921 in Missouri Valley; Harrison County, Iowa. She received her education in the Missouri Valley schools graduating from Missouri Valley High School in 1939. Jean spent her whole life caring for others. She cared for tuberculosis patients at Ah-Gwah-Ching TB Center in Walker, Minnesota, shortly after World War II. As a single woman she wasn't afraid to enter a wilderness area where a great deal of her patients were Native Americans. She then moved to Iowa where she met, loved and cared for Earl Farris, whom she always called "my big and strong man." On Friday; September 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Earl W. Farris in Missouri Valley. After their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Terril; Dickinson County, Iowa. When their marriage gave them no children she reached out and found two young people to nurture. First Elaine, whom she worked with at Good Samaritan and later Frank Purcell, the orphaned son of a cousin. They later moved to Estherville and Regina worked at Good Samaritan Center for 20 years. Jeanne gave of herself to her patients at Good Samaritan and to the staff; many still working there shared how Jeanne had trained them. Earl died on Wednesday; December 5, 1979. Regina has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since March of 2004. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Estherville. Jeanne was known by all for her good nature, sense of caring and her wonderful sense of humor. She always carried a strong faith in her God and her fellow man. She will be missed. Regina E. (Ammons) Farris, 84, departed this life on Friday; December 8, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Estherville, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are her special friends, Jim and Elaine Haugen, their children and grandchildren. Frank Purcell and also by her favorite niece, Allison Ashland. Her parents; husband; brother and a sister have preceded her in death. Visitation will be Monday; December 11, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Estherville; Emmet County, Iowa. Funeral Services will be Monday; December 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Doug Burton, Officiating at First Christian Church in Estherville, Iowa.
