Estherville – Services for LaVern (Sam) Farmer, 55, will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John P. Besore, III and Pastor William smith officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Monday, June 27, 1994 at his home in Estherville.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. , Wednesday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born Dec. 5, 1938, at Clearwater, Neb., the son of Bert and Helen (Velte) Farmer and attended grade school in Terril and High School at Lake Center, graduating in 1957. He entered the United States Army Aug. 26, 1959 and served as a medic and signalman in Ludwicksburg, Germany. On June 16, 1962 he was united in marriage with Donna Hackett at Estherville in 1984 where he was employed driving truck for Holiday Express.
He was a member of Lost Island Lutheran Church where he was a past Deacon and Trustee. He was a 4-H leader and member of the Palo Alto Cattlemen’s board. He was later a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Estherville; son Scott of Whitewater, Wis., daughters: Mrs. Ed (Julie) Pegarsch of Milwaukee and Mrs. Dean (Tammy) Bell of Estherville; six grandchildren; his mother, Helen Farmer of Estherville; sisters: Mrs. Bruce (Arlene) Polly of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Rodney (Carolyn) Hansen of Wallingford; Mrs. Don (Marilyn) Egeland of Ossian and Myrtle Shaffer of Graettinger.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 29, 1994)
