ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Donna J. Farmer, 68, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with Pastor Mark Gabbard officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.
Donna Jean (Hackett) Farmer, the daughter of Glenn and Edna (Juhl) Hackett, was born Nov. 26, 1939, in Estherville.
She attended Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School in 1957. After graduation, she attended Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minn. She then worked in the office of John Morrell and Company in Estherville.
Donna was united in marriage to LaVern (Samuel) Farmer on June 16, 1962, in Estherville. They farmed and lived in the Terril area for 21 years. After relocating to Estherville in 1984, Donna worked as a waitress at Casa Loma and worked in food services at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
She was a member of the Lost Island Lutheran Church for a number of years where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent and the organist. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville where she again became a member. She was a member of the P.W., a Deacon, Elder and organist.
Donna enjoyed gardening, camping, card club, square dancing, giving piano lessons, music and playing for weddings and funerals.
She is survived by her son, Scott Farmer, and his wife, Kayleen, of Estherville; two daughters, Julie Pegarsch and her husband, Ed, of Mooresville, N.C., and Tammy Ayers and her husband, Chad, of Estherville; seven loving grandchildren, Samantha Farmer, Danielle Pegarsch, Kyle Farmer, Ryan Pegarsch, Mikaeli Bell, Mikenzie Bell and Saylor Ayers; one great-grandson, Spencer Pegarsch; one brother, James Hackett and his wife, Kathleen, of Hartland, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Egeland and her husband, Don, Carolyn Hansen and her husband, Rodney, and Arlene Rouse; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Sam; parents; in-laws, Bert and Helen Farmer and Myrtle Shaffer. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 15, 2008)
