George Enderson Sr.
Estherville – Services for George O. Enderson Sr., 66, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with interment in East Side Cemetery. He died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Pastor Richard A. Berger will officiate.

Full Military Rites will be observed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home until noon Friday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state.

He was born Nov. 4, 1915 at Forest City, Ia., the son of Ole and Mary (Smith) Enderson. He received his education in the Armstrong and Maple Hill schools. He was united in marriage to Leona Laidig on Dec. 31, 1942 at Omaha, Neb. He was employed by John Morrell and Co. for over 25 years and retired Nov. 1, 1977 due to ill health. Enderson was very active with Boy Scout Troop 24 for many years and was also a coach for little league.

Enderson was a veteran of World War Two where he served with the United States Army and was the recipient of the Purple Heart medal for wounds received in action. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and a 25 year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388.

Survivors include his wife, Leona, Estherville; three sons: George Jr., Dubuque, Ole and Tyrone, Estherville; four daughters: Mrs. Lonnie (Frankey) DeRaad, Hudson, S.D., Mrs. Marvin (Cecilia) Gerstrandt, Paullina, Mrs. Stan (Mildred) Feldhacker, Adel, Mary Jo Henderson, Spencer; 11 grandchildren; four brothers: Clarence and Dewey Enderson, Estherville; Orville Enderson, Des Moines; Art Johnson, Graettinger; five sisters: Anna Fox, Pine River, Minn., Myrtle Payne, Estherville, Mrs. George (Margaret) Manly, Armstrong, Nelma Fisher, Minneapolis, Mrs. Elna Rockfeller, Gowrie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1982)
