Mary Josephne Deck, daughter of Nels and Carrie Anderson, was born January 24, 1878, in Emmet County, and died December 27, 1946 in the Abbott hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 68 years 11 months and 3 days.

On December 24, 1895 she was united in marriage to Ward Deck of Stratford, Iowa. To this union were born four children, Ralph of Minneavolis [Minneapolis], George of Owatonna, Ethel Baird of St. James and Alice Knapp of Des Plaines, Ill.

After their marriage they lived on a farm northeast of Estherville. In 1903 they moved o a farm near Truman, Minn. where they resided for a number of years, later moving to Owatonna. Two weeks ago they went to Minneapolis to live with their son Ralph during the winter months.

Mrs. Deck was able to be with her family on Christmas at the home of her daughter in St. James. On Thursday she became seriously ill and lapsed into a coma passing away on Friday evening.

In her girlhood she was confirmed in the Estherville Lutheran Church. Later she transferred her membership to the Lutheran Church at Owatonna and continued in that faith.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, four children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. P.T. Holland of Lake Preston, S.D., Mrs. Bert Helgerson of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Wesley Sutton and Mrs. Frank Sutton of Estherville, and two brothers Harry J. Anderson of Estherville and Walter Anderson of Muskegon, Michigan,

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers and a grandson who lost his life in the service of his country.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Estherville Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Rev. Fjelstad of Owatonna conducted the services with Rev. C.M. Hanson officiating. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 2, 1947)
