Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Dean, 74, of Spirit Lake, are set for Thursday, July 19, 1984, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, in Estherville. Dean died Tuesday morning, July 17 at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Interment will be made in the East Side Cemetery, in Estherville.

Immediate survivors include one son, Glen, of rural Spirit Lake.

Funeral services for Irene Charlotte Dean, 74, of Spirit Lake, were held Thursday, July 19, 1984, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, in Estherville, with the Rev. Walter Hamer officiating. Dean died Tuesday, July 17, 1984.

Mrs. Donna Farmer, organist, accompanied the congregation as they sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Pallbearers were Corbett Bradeen, Dean Crotty, David Dean, Jerry Dean, Dean Poyzer and Greg Poyzer. Interment was in the Eastside Cemetery in Estherville.

Irene Charlotte Dean was born April 26, 1910 in Dallas County, IA., the daughter of Ira Bruce Book and Goldie May Royer. She moved to Emmet County in 1913 and received 12 years of schooling there.

On Aug. 23, 1933, she married Herbert Dean and has since lived in Dickinson County, farming until retirement in 1970. Herbert Dean died in October of 1975.

Dean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Estherville, and was active in all community affairs.

Survivors include one son, Glen and his wife, Troylene; four grandchildren, Teresa, Steve, Michelle and Anna; two great grandchildren, Shane and Casey; four brothers, Fermon Book of Des Moines, Ethan Book. Lee Book and Don Book of Estherville, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Loren and Evert. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, July 26, 1984)
