Milton M. "Bob" Day 1921-2010

A memorial service for Milton M. “Bob” Day will take place on Thursday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Estherville, Iowa, with Pastor Lynn A. Potter officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville, with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, Estherville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Milton M. "Bob" Day, the son of Lester and Gladys (Arnett) Day, was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Jackson. He passed away Monday, May 24, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa.

He received his education in the Jackson schools, graduating from Jackson High School. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service in anti-tank and rifle division, also as an occupational counselor during World War II.

On April 26, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lavonne Sears in San Francisco, Calif. Bob has lived in San Francisco, Jackson and Estherville. He owned and operated Quality Dry Cleaners for 25 years and later was employed at John Morrell and Company for fifteen years. Bob retired in 1990. Lavonne passed away on Nov. 10, 1998.

On June 21, 2002, Bob was united in marriage to Esther Williams in Las Vegas, Nev. Bob was an avid golfer and made a hole in one in 1978, at the Estherville Country Club.

He was an active member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men's group and served as a funeral usher for over 40 years. Bob was also an active volunteer of Teleacare services.

Left to cherish Bob's memory is his wife, Esther of Estherville; sons, Michael Day of Redland, Calif.; William Day of Omaha, Neb.; stepchildren, Douglas Williams of Park City, Utah; Steven Williams of Sunny Isle Beach, Fla.; Rochelle Urwiller and her husband, Richard of Broomfield, Colo.; grandchildren, Christopher Day, Jason Day, Makayla Day, Kelly Williams, Ricky Urwiller and Ryan Urwiller; great-grandchildren, Taylor Day, Gavin Day and Ryann Day; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lavonne; two brothers; and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the United Methodist Church or ECHO. (Jackson County Pilot, Jackson, MN, May 25, 2010)
