ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for George Crawmer, 89, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Ed Ward officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only on Monday. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.

He died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

George Clayton Crawmer, the son of John and Edith (Rowe) Crawmer, was born May 25, 1920, in Mallard.

He received his education in country schools. George served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the area.

He was united in marriage to Elsie Nyborg. The couple made their home in Estherville and George was employed with the Iowa Department of Transportation for 32 years as a mechanic. In his leisure time he enjoyed being at their summer cottage near Spirit Lake and dancing. Elsie died in 1984.

He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and Estherville VFW Post 3388.

Left to cherish George's memory are his step-daughter, Arlene (Nyborg) Thieme and her husband, Gary "Gene" of Waseca, Minn.; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; half-brothers, Donald Crawmer of Emmetsburg and Jim Crawmer of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding George in death were his wife; four sisters, Lorene, Erma, Florence and Lydie; step-son, Jim Nyborg; two brothers, John and Roy and also special friend, Gladys Friesner. (MC)
