Mrs. Homer Cleveland Dies at 56
Mrs. Homer Cleveland, 56, died yesterday at 10 p.m. shortly after her arrival at Holy Family Hospital. Cause of death was given as complications due to an asthmatic condition and diabetes. Mrs. Cleveland had been in failing health for the past few years but it was not until yesterday that her condition became critical.Ruby Stoddard was born Sept. 8, 1900 in Cumberland, Wisc., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hattie Graves] Stoddard. She attended school there until after the death of her mother when she and a sister and brother came to Fort Dodge to make their home with a married sister, Mrs. E.W. Severson.
About 1920 the Severson family and Mrs. Severson’s brother and sisters all moved to Estherville. Mrs. Cleveland had made her home here since that time.
She was married March 29, 1921 to Homer Cleveland here in Estherville. One daughter, LaVonne was born to the couple.
Mrs. Cleveland was a longtime and faithful member of the Free Methodist church.
She is survived by her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Harold Hageman and one grandson, Terry Hageman. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Severson of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Justin Rogers, Spirit Lake and one brother Lyle Stoddard of Estherville.
Funeral services will be held Friday but time and place of services are to be published in tomorrow’s Daily News. The Rev. Lewis Larson will officiate at the services and interment will be in East Side Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 20, 1957)
