Estherville – Services for Thomas Frederick (Fred) Clayton, 86, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Rev. Clifford Haider of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Sunday [June 6, 1982] at Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today (Tuesday) and Wednesday morning until time of services.
Clayton was born Feb. 4, 1896 on a farm near Terril, the son of Joseph and Reaka (Stratman) Clayton. He received his education in the country schools. On Nov. 22, 1936 he was united in marriage to Effie Criger Fisher at Estherville. He farmed in the Estherville area his entire life until forced to retire due to ill health.
Survivors include one son, Clifford Clayton, Estherville; three stepdaughters: Mrs. Ruth Lind and Mrs. Ruby Zitterich, Estherville, and Marjorie Miller, Redman, Wash. 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 8, 1982)
