James DeWitt Chesley, the son of Ery (Nick) and Luella (Harback) Chesley, was born November 17, 1924, in Dunnell, Minnesota, Martin County. He passed away Friday, November 27, 2009, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 85 years.

He married Agnes Marie Linn on November 11, 1947 in Jackson, Minnesota. James worked on various farms, also at the Naval Base in Lemoore, California and he worked at John Morrells Co. in Estherville. He was an avid fisherman who loved his children, grandchildren, dogs and playing bingo. Most important was spending time with his friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Ronald (Elsa) Chesley of Subic Bay, Philippines; four grandchildren, Steven (Shannon) Chesley of Cuba, New York; Stephanie (Joshua) Parr of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; Angelia and Anthony Chesley of Subic Bay, Philippines; seven great grandchildren, brother, Alvin (June) Chesley of Hiawatha, Iowa; sister, Nina Walterman of Jackson, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Sharon Longman, two brothers, Orville and Obert; three sisters, Blanche Landis, Ruby Pieper and Ivadell Steele.
