Gene Carrier Services Saturday in Estherville
I.G. (Gene) Carrier, 66, Estherville, died at 10 a.m. Aug. 30 of a heart attack while working in his garden at the Den Poyzer farm.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. Visitation may be made at Reese-Henry Funeral Home until noon Saturday.
Ira Eugene Carrier was born Oct. 26, 1906, in Waterloo to Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Carrier. He was educated in Rockwell City, was graduated from Marengo High School and attended Sedalia School of Floriculture in Missouri. On Nov. 1, 1927, he was married to Caroline Kurth in Cedar Rapids.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and in 1946 went to work for the Iowa Conservation Commission. He served at state parks at Lake Manawa, Pottawattamie Co.; Nine Eagles, Decatur Co.; Beeds Lake, Franklin Co.; Prairie Rose Lake, Shelby Co.; and came to Fort Defiance in 1969. He retired on Nov. 1, 1971.
Mr. Carrier was a member of United Methodist Church, Hebron Lodge 148 of I.O.O.F. in Marengo, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline, Estherville; one son, Donald of Belleview; two daughters, Mrs. Teddy (Frances) Woods, Crescent, and Mrs. Walter (Barbara) Osborn, Lakewood, Colo.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel A. Carrier, Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 31, 1973)
