City Doctor Dies in Crash
Ft. Dodge – Dr. Robert J. Dawson, Estherville, was killed in a 2-car accident at about 11:30 a.m. this morning on U.S. 169 five miles north of Ft. Dodge. Dawson’s wife was injured and admitted to a Ft. Dodge hospital.

Also killed in the crash was Mrs. Floyd Moe, Pocahontas. Her husband was critically injured in the accident and was also admitted to a Ft. Dodge Hospital.

According to a report from the “Ft. Dodge Messenger”, the Dawson automobile was southbound and apparently went into a skid and into the path of the Moe car. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 11, 1975)

Estherville – Funeral services for Dr. Robert Jerry Dawson, 45, Estherville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Rosary will be recited at 8 o’clock tonight at Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Dr. Dawson was fatally injured about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, in a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 169 five miles north of Fort Dodge.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Dawson, Dr. Dawson was born April 19, 1930, at Rockwell City. After his family moved to Moorland, he received his education in Moreland schools, attended medical school at the University of Iowa, and served his internship at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines.

Dr. Dawson opened a general practice in Graettinger following his internship, which he continued through 1964 when he opened a general practice in Estherville.

He was married to Trudy Rierson at Las Vegas, Nev., Jan. 27, 1965.

Dr. Dawson was vice president of the Iowa Medical Society, was past president of the Emmet County Medical Staff, had been Emmet County Medical Examiner for several years and a member of the American Medical Association. He was also a member of the Lions’s Club and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy; four sons, Jerry of Grand Rapids, Mich., William of Oakland, Calif., Harold of Phoenix, Ariz., and Steven of Graettinger; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Dawson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Mrs. Joseph Cummings, Litchfield Park, Ariz. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 13, 1975)
