Estherville – Funeral services for Hilda E. [Evelyn] Arthur, 81 of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2001 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Bruce Carlson officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died on April 27, 2001 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4:30-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2001 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born on March 28, 1920 in Hartley, the daughter of John (Jack) and Dorothy (Baumeister) Merry. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1937.
She moved to Estherville and was employed as a bookkeeper at Tobin Packing for several years. On August 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to William Arthur in Sioux City, Ia. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Spirit Lake, Rice Lake, Wisc. and Santa Ana, Calif. before returning to the Estherville area. She worked as a bookkeeper and did income tax preparation, having her own tax practice for over thirty years up through age eighty.
For hobbies she enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, William of Estherville; one son, Thomas of Santa Ana, Calif.; three daughters, Jane Wahl and her husband, Harley of Slayton, Minn., Connie Paradise and her husband De Wayne of Wausau, Wisc. and Mary Jo of Herndon, Virg.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Bradshaw of Dows, Ia.; and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Frost of Spirit Lake, Ia. and Elsie McDaniels of Brookings, Ore.
She was preceded in death by one son, William John Arthur who died December 13, 1993; her parents; and two sisters, Ella and Emma. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 28, 2001)
