Estherville – Funeral services for Lars Anderson, 86, of Estherville will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Mike Thiel officiating. Interment will be in the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. He died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at his home in Estherville.Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to charities of choice.
He was born March 22, 1912 in Gruver, the son of Thorwald and Elma (Dick) Anderson. He received his education in the rural Gruver school, graduating in 1929 from Gruver High Scholl as valedictorian of his class.
On April 30, 1933, he was united in marriage to Olive Cline in Sioux City. The couple lived their entire married life in the Estherville area. Lars operated a dairy farm from 1933 until 1978. Mrs. Anderson died in July of 1991.
He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a past Sunday School superintendent. He also was a past Gruver School Board member, assessor for Center, Ellsworth and Emmet townships, and he served as a trustee of Estherville twp.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Arnie (Leota) Hall of Butterfield, Minn.; Mrs. David (Nancy) Kautz of Buford, Ga.; Mrs. Vic (Linda) Brown of Estherville; Mrs. Oscar (Ellen) White of Flower Mound, Tex.; Ruth Tobin of Lewisville, Tex.; and Mrs. Randy (Norma) Beaver of Estherville; two sons, Doug Anderson and Larry Anderson of Estherville; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Anderson of Estherville; 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Anderson, Oliver Anderson and Francis “Sport” Anderson of Estherville; three sisters, Emmet Griese of Dolliver, Mrs. Cecil (Mae Rose) Eide of Estherville and Mrs. Doug (Edith) Brandt of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Oliver, one son (Leo) and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 22, 1998)
