Herman Ahrens
Services for Herman W. [William] Ahrens, 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Robert W. Wagner officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery in Estherville. He died Friday at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born Nov. 22, 1911 in Dows City, the son of Edward F. Ahrens, Sr., attended Blagg Country School near Estherville, and graduated from Estherville High School. He graduated from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn. Herman moved to Estherville with his family in 1915 and remained single. After school he operated a gas station in Huntington. In 1939, he moved to Storm Lake to be employed by the Dekalb Corn Plant. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Storm Lake. He moved and lived in Idaho and Oregon before moving to Seattle, Wash., where he was a manager of the street department for the City of Seattle until retirement. After his retirement, he did volunteer work for a Seattle Hospital and later moved to Tucson, Ariz. He enjoyed photography as a hobby. He was a veteran of WW 2 in the US Army 1942-1945 in the Pacific.

He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Tucson, Ariz.

He is survived by two brothers: Carl Ahrens of Estherville and Edward Ahrens, Estherville; two sisters: Miss Pauline Ahrens of El Paso, Tex. And Mrs. Marie Tiervold of Sherburn, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Senne. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 29, 1991)
