Mrs. Mary Wilhelmina Wilhelms was born September 15, 1891 to Mr. and Mrs. August Tapps of Rockwell City, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church there. It was in this community that she grew to young womanhood, and in which she received her early public school education. She was united in marriage on February 10, 1914 to Herman W. Wilhelms. The ceremony was solemnized by the Rev. Rickels at the Tapps home. Together they established their home on a farm in Calhoun County. They lived there four years and then moved to Mitchell, South Dakota where they remained for 16 years. In 1934 they moved with their family to a farm northwest of Estherville and have lived in that community ever since.

Mrs. Wilhelms has been in rather poor health for some time, but was stricken with an acute condition about a month ago. She passed away at Holy Family Hospital on Sunday morning, April 25, at 9:40 o’clock. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, April 28, from the Estherville Lutheran Church, and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Martha Juhl and Mrs. Evelyn Wells, both of this community; also four grandchildren, Elmer, Donald and Betty Wells and Darlene Juhl. She is also survived by four brothers and two sisters, William Tapps of Manson, Fred, and John Tapps of Rockwell City, and Art Tapps of Richards, Iowa, Mrs. L. Moberg of Rockwell City and Mrs. Ella Lembke of Rochelle, Ill. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 6, 1948)
