Mrs. Elva Wiegand Passed Away at Daughter’s Home
Mrs. Elva Wiegand, who had been ill for the past two months and who came from Fairmont, Minn., less than two weeks ago to be cared for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Loers and family, died Monday morning, July 2.

Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon, Thursday, at one-thirty o’clock at the Harpole Funeral Home. Mrs. Wiegand was a member of the Church of Christian Science in Fairmont and services will be in charge of Mrs. Lyshoi from the church in that city. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Estherville.

Elva Alberta Snider Wiegand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Snider, was born October 29, 1879, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. At the time of her death she was sixty-five years and nine months of age.

She came with her parents to the United States when she was nine years of age. The family settled at May City where they continued to make their home until the death of Mr. and Mrs. Snider. The latter passed away three years ago and the father died in May, 1945. For the last two years of his life Mrs. Wiegnd had cared for him at May City.

Following her marriage to John Wiegand, Mrs. Wiegand lived in the May City community and also at Estherville. Later she lived for some time in Fairmont.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Harry Loers of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Alice Rockne of Estherville, and Mrs. Marjorie Markquart of Fairmont. The sons are Myrle Wiegand of Long Beach, California who arrived here late last Thursday to be with his mother in her last illness, and Sgt. LeRoy Wiegand, who is with the United States armed forces in Belgium.

Another son, Ronald, died twenty-one years ago at the age of nineteen. [eighteen]

She is also survived by eleven grandchildren.

Besides her interest and work in affairs of the church with which she was affiliated, Mrs. Wiegand was very active in the Red Cross, giving freely of her time and labor whenever an opportunity was afforded her.

A granddaughter, Marilyn Loers, WAVE, S.K.D. 3/c, is stationed in San Diego, California, and a grandson, Howard Loers, E.M. 1/c, is with the armed forces in the South Pacific. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, July 5, 1945)
