Mr. West, father of Mrs. A.E. Gaylord, died in this city Sunday morning, Dec. 28th, after an illness of only a few days. Deceased was nearly seventy-five years of age. Funeral services were held at the Gaylord home on Tuesday afternoon and the remains interred in the Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1902)
