Ill for Several Months With Bad Case of Diabetis
Was Old Time Resident
Fifty-nine Years of Age and a Resident of Emmet County Over Thirty Years

Asmus Wellendorf, a pioneer citizen of Emmet county, passed away last Thursday [December 27, 1923] morning after a prolonged illness. He was well known to people in this vicinity, having lived here since 1893. He was born in Wendtorf, Germany, January 7th, 1865. In 1881 he left the land of his birth and came to the United States lured by the promises of great fortune in this county, and settled in Clinton county. He remained there until in 1893, when he removed to Emmet county and lived on the Riley farm for five years. Later he moved to Raleigh and in 1914 came to Estherville where he lived a retired life. He was an unmarried man and is survived by one brother, Henry, of this city. His sister, Mrs. Monseka, preceded him in death last January. Mr. Wellendorf had not been well since last spring, having been a victim of diabetis, but it was not until in August that his condition was considered as serious as it proved to be. He was taken to the hospital and it was there that he passed away early Thursday morning. He has a host of friends who deeply regret his departure from this world. He was ambitious and energetic and one of Emmet county’s successful farmers. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the local Norwegian Lutheran church, the Rev. Hansen, from Wallingford, officiating. Interment was made in the Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 2, 1924)
