Estherville – Services for Hilbert Duane Walz, 64, of Arnolds Park, formerly of Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Richard Berger officiating. He died Sunday, Aug. 12, 1990 at the V.A. Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military service by the V.F.W. and American Legion.He was born August 12, 1927 at Fenton, the son of Charles and Adelphine (Dietrich) Walz and moved with his family to Estherville as a young boy. He attended Estherville schools. He served in the U.S. navy June 5, 1944 to May 4, 1946. Following service he worked for the City of Estherville street department for 30 years until May 1, 1976 when he retired on account of poor health. On June 24, 1951 he married Dorothy Fliehler at Ringsted. He has lived in Arnolds Park the past ten years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Lifetime member of VFW.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Merrie Joe) Jensen, Estherville; two sons, Duane, Oklahoma and Paul of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Helen) Yackle and Mrs. Merlyn (Arlene) Wee both of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 15, 1990)
