J.C. Snyder [Jacob Hardin Chandler Snyder], an old time resident of Estherville passed away on November seventeenth at the home of his son Oliver Snyder at Wood Lake, California. Mr. Snyder came to Estherville in 1884 and resided here until a few years ago. There remains to mourn his death two sons, Oliver and John Snyder and Mrs. Alice Mink, all residing in the west and Mrs. Herman Wiese of this city. The deceased was a civil war veteran and had seen many a hard fought battle during the time of that conflict. For years he filled his position in the ranks of the G.A.R. post of this city and was always a loyal supporter of any old soldier. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 28, 1917)

Jacob is buried in the Veterans Memorial Grove Cemetery, Yountville, Napa Co., CA
