Estherville – Memorial services for Vera Shonkwiler, 88, of Estherville, will be held Saturday, March 7, 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. She died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.
There will be no visitation prior to the memorial services. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 28, 1998)

She was born September 25, 1909 at Storm Lake, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Gossman) Gee. She received her education in Storm Lake and Estherville, graduating from Estherville High School. She also graduated from Estherville Junior College, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Mankato State Teachers College in Mankato, Minn. She lived most of her life in the Estherville area. She was united in marriage with Oliver Shonkwiler on Oct. 2, 1932 at Estherville. They farmed near Terril and Wallingford before moving to a farm northwest of Estherville in 1939.
She taught school in several Emmet County country schools, Emmet Consolidated School, Dolliver School and Lincoln Central Community School before her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Emmet County Historical Society.
Survivors include a son William O. Shonkwiler, of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Judith L.) Kline of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Mrs. Bob (Debra) Dudley, Scott and Brad Shonkwiler, six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died July 26, 1995; one great-grandchild and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 4, 1998)
