Estherville – Memorial services for Oliver Shonkwiler, 88, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Estherville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Estherville. He died Wednesday, July 26, 1995 at St. Mary’s Hospital at Rochester, Minn.

Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.

He was born March 4, 1907 at Hartley, the son of Simon and Lilith (Combs) Shonkwiler. He received his education in the Spencer Schools, graduating from High School with honors. He then attended Estherville Junior College. On Oct. 2, 1932 he married Vera Gee in Estherville. He has lived in Hartley, Spencer, Terril and Estherville. He farmed most of his adult life northwest of Estherville. He also raised chickens and sold eggs all of his life and retired in 1994.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Emmet County Historical Society, and the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Survivors include his wife Vera and son William of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Judith) Kline, of Stevensville, Mont., three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers: Lincoln of Hamilton, Mont., Roger of Estherville and Doug of Deerfield Beach, Fla., sisters: Ruth Willey of Ames and Ann Evans, Newport Beach, Calif.
