Estherville – Services for Gordon J. Sheltren, 84, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Besore III officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. He died Monday, May 9, 1994 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
He was born April 12, 1910 at Lockport, Ill., the son of Joseph and Julia (Holmquist) Sheltren and attended Lockport schools. He moved to Estherville in 1926. He owned and operated Sheltren’s Master Service from 1930 until retiring. On Sept. 5, 1943 he married Marian McAffee at Estherville.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church; charter member of Board of Deacons, Moderator and Elder; active in Big Brother program; received award in 1970 from Estherville Police Department for aiding the police information fund; award for Meritorious Service and Dedication to Youth from the Estherville Community School District. The Sheltrens provide five scholarships to the College of the Ozarks in Branson, Mo., in the Nursing, Pharmacy and Religion departments.
He is survived by his wife Marian of Estherville; nephew Paul McAffee of Reno, Nev. and sister-in-law, Bertha Anderson of Exira.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1994)
