Charles Shirley Dies Wednesday
Charles (Ed) Shirley, 64, died yesterday, Nov. 17, at Holy Family Hospital.Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Robert Carl Miller and the Rev. Fred D. Sawyer officiating. Burial will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Shirley was born July 20, 1907, in Campbellsburg, Ind., to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shirley. He received his education in Boone County, Ind., graduating from Perry Consolidated School there.
He came to Emmet County in 1928 and was employed as a horse buyer for Hill Livestock Co. in Estherville and Norfolk, Neb. On Sept. 21, 1931, he was married to Lela Belle Sawyer in Winchester, Ind. He returned to Estherville with his wife in 1957 and he became part-time horse buyer and operator of a Hill farm southwest of Estherville. He was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Shirley is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Taylor (Jo Ann) of Spencer; one son, Jack Edward of Estherville; four grandchildren; three brothers, Bert of Estherville, Carl of Pittsboro, Ind., and Levi of Humbird, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Dillon of Pittsboro, Ind., Mrs. Lawrence Nunnally of Lebanon, Ind., and Mrs. Beulah Baker, Sheridan, Ind.; 42 nieces and nephews and 100 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
