Estherville – Services for Francis T. Shadle, 85, formerly of Estherville, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Estherville with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1992 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 5 – 9 Sunday.

Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

He was born August 11, 1907 at Estherville. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1924 and from the University of Iowa in 1928 with a degree in Business Administration. He was married to Freda Young on Dec. 30, 1934 at Marion and continued to live in Estherville except for three years in Eagle Grove. Retiring from business in 1972 the Shadles have made their summer home in Okoboji and winter in Yuma, Ariz.

He worked with Jno. E. Greig and Greig & Co. from 1929-1947, for three years 1948-1951 he was Executive Vice President of Eagle Grove National Bank. He returned to Estherville as President of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank and continued in that position until his retirement in 1972.

He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and served in many capacities; a member of the Masonic Lodge, charter member of Estherville Rotary Club and member of Estherville Elks Lodge for many years. He was a past President of Estherville Chamber of Commerce; charter member and treasurer of Estherville Industrial Development Corp.; treasurer of March of Dimes, Chairman of United Fund and Estherville Board of Education member. For over 25 years he was involved in the Boy Scout Program as Scout Master, Troop Committees and Chairman of Prairie Gold Scout District and was awarded the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award of service and education.

Survivors include his wife, Freda; three sons: Stephen of Yuma, Ariz.; George of Estherville, and Mark of LeGrande, Ore.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Virginia Phelps of Spirit Lake. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 26, 1992)
