Estherville – Funeral services for John W. Rugtiv, 82, of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Reverend Lynn A. Potter officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. He died on Sunday, April 15, 2001 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home by the North Star Masonic Lodge 447 of Estherville.

He was born on July 17, 1918, in Estherville, the son of Ben and Olive (Robb) Rugtiv.

On May 5, 1943, John was united in marriage to Glenna Higgins in Oakland, California. After World Wr II, the couple moved back to Estherville. John was employed by Betsy Ross Bakery and Thomas Motors in Estherville. He later worked for the state of Iowa with the Conversation Commission. John owned and operated a service station and later was employed by Hammond Oil Company for many years until his retirement.

John was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville. He was an active member of the North Star Masonic Lodge #447, the Jepta Chapter A#128, Esdraelon Commandery #52 and the Abu Beker Shrine in Sioux City. John enjoyed fishing and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna of Estherville; two sisters-in-law, Jane Cimarusti and her husband, Cato of Encino, Calif., and Joan Rugtiv of Valley Center, Calif.; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sam, Rob and Richard, one niece and two nephews. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 17, 2001)
