Funeral services for Wesley Christensen, 87 of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed. Sept 2, 1998, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 3388. He died Sunday [August 30, 1998] at his farm home rural Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today, Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on February 23, 1911 in Bode, the son of Jens C. and Johannah (Nielsen) Christensen. He received his education in the rural country school and later the Estherville schools. He moved with his family at an early age to a farm north of Estherville. He served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II as a waist gunner. He was wounded in action on a mission and spent several months hospitalized. Due to the injured he sustained he received the Purple Heart.

On Feb 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Weir in Fostoria. The couple made their home on his parents homestead and lived most of their life there where he was engaged in farming with his brothers and later his son.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville, lifetime member of VFW Post 3388 of Estherville; and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Estherville, sons, Dennis Christensen of Yucca Valley, Calif.; Jack Christensen of Estherville; daughters, Mrs. Bob (Linda) Schleisman of Emmetsburg; Kaylene Thomas of Coon Rapids, Minn. eight grandchildren, brother, Nels Christensen of Estherville; sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Evelyn) Hogansen of Estherville and Mrs. Vernon (Eldora) Jensen of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 1, 1998)
