Services for Russell O. Peterson, 83, Spirit Lake, were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 1988 at the Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake. Rev. Jim Quitno officiated.

Bev Berquist was organist and hymns sung were “Amazing Grace,” and “Peace in the Valley.”

Mr. Peterson died Friday, Nov. 25 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1905 at Estherville to Augustus O. and Abigail R. Peterson. He attended Estherville High School and Estherville Junior College.

He married Corinne Noel Aug. 31, 1926 at Estherville. He was superintendent of Public Works for the City of Estherville. They lived in Estherville and had a summer cottage on south shore of Spirit Lake. They moved to Spirit Lake in 1972.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church in Estherville.

He loved the lakes, boating, hunting and woodworking.

Survivors include four daughter, Jeanne Peterson, Barbara Tollefson, and Nadine Johnson, all of Spirit Lake and Nancy Houchins, Ogden; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville with Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, in charge of arrangements. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, December 1, 1988)
