Estherville – Service for James M. Payne, 46, of Estherville will be held at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. John Besore III officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He died Sunday, May 21 at Holy Family Hospital.

Visitation will be held at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home today, Monday, May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.

He was born April 5, 1949 in Estherville, the son of Howard and Myrtle (Enderson) Payne and received his education in the Estherville schools. He served with the Army from September 25, 1969 until August 26, 1970 in Vietnam. After his discharge, he was employed in the Estherville area for several years. He moved to Los Angeles, Cal. in 1972. He was employed as a desk clerk for the KLYT Apartments. His health failed and he moved back to Estherville in January of 1995.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388 of Estherville.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Sally) Nitchals of Estherville; Mrs. Lee (Helen) Nitchals of Estherville, Mrs. Robert (Annabell) Soat of Spirit Lake; two brothers, George of Surry, British Columbia and Jerry of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; and special friend, Judy Iverson of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 22, 1995)
