W.H. Olson Dies After Heart Attack
William H. Olson, 72, retired assistant postmaster and lifelong resident of Estherville, died unexpectedly about 8 p.m. yesterday after suffering a heart attack.

Mr. Olson had suffered a previous attack Nov. 30 and was hospitalized for several weeks but had recuperated and had been feeling well before last night’s attack.

Mr. and Mrs. Olson drove to the George Guge home north of Superior last night to spend the evening. Mr. Olson was stricken with the attack at the Guge home and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Last rites for Mr. Olson are to be Monday at 2 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Elder G.N. Miller of Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman’s after 7 p.m. Saturday until time of services Monday.

Born Sept. 4, 1892, on a farm southeast of Estherville, William Herbert Olson was the son of Chris and Agnes Olson. The Olson family moved to Estherville a few years later, and he received his education here.

William Olson and the former Marie Blake were married in Estherville Jan. 12, 1915, at the home of her parents and spent their entire married life here.

Mr. Olson was employed for 27 years at the Estherville post office, serving for several of those years as assistant postmaster. He retired in 1952 because of ailing health.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Harold L. (Florence) Bryan and Mrs. D.H. (Norene) Coke, both of Madison, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Olson was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Olson observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a small group of friends and relatives in their home on Jan. 12. They had planned a different observance but because of Mr. Olson’s health, decided upon the smaller group. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 26, 1965)
