F.E. Martin, 74, Dies in Home in Kissimmee, Fla.
Former Official of Rock Island Railroad
Frank E. Martin, 74, of Kissimmee, Fla., father of Mrs. Lloyd E. Stockdale died Monday following an emergency operation from which he failed to recover.

Francis Edward Martin was born March 3, 1870, in Allstadt, Germany. His family emigrated in 1871 to Scarsboro, Iowa. He began work at 13 as a telegraph operator at Gilman, on the Iowa Central railroad, which later was purchased by the M. & St. L.

Joins R.I. in 1913
Mr. Martin was married Sept. 9, 1894 to Elizabeth Millard of Peoria, Ill., and they resided 15 years in Oskaloosa. It was in 1913 that he joined the Rock Island after employment with several railroads. He had served with the M. & St. L., the Santa Fe, the Soo, the Union Pacific and several other lines before his appointment in 1913 as chief dispatcher at Rock Island.

In 1916 Mr. Martin was appointed train master of the Dakota division, at Estherville, and later he was made assistant superintendent, when the Cedar Rapids and Dakota divisions were merged. He held that position when retired in 1937. Mrs. Martin died in 1936.

He spent winters in Florida, until his marriage to Alice Butler Curry of Kissimmee, Fla., where he resided until his death, Nov. 13.

Survivors are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd E. Stockdale; two brothers, Peter of Scarsboro and Louis of Monmouth, Ill.; two stepsons, Lt. Ben Curry, U.S.N., and Lt. Don Curry, U.S.N.; three grandchildren, Mrs. John Grogan, Pfc. John Stockdale, Jerome Stockdale; and one great grandchild, Dennis Grogan.
