Emmetsburg – Funeral services for Floyd Jurries, 80, of Emmetsburg will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Emmetsburg, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 2295. He died on Monday, March 16 at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Wednesday with a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
He was born on October 4, 1917 in Joliet, ill., the son of Charles and Louise (Topp) Jurries. He received his education in the rural schools near Wallingford. He was united in marriage to Clara Guinn on Sept. 30, 1941, in Emmetsburg. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1942 to 1945 and was a P.O.W. from June 1944 to May 1945. He worked at Deep Rock Station for many years in Emmetsburg.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish and the Emmetsburg American Legion.
He is survived by four brothers, Wilbur Jurries of Manson; Melvin Jurries of Emmetsburg; Charles Jurries of Henry, Ill.; Stanley Jurries of Emmetsburg; Gladys Fry of Spencer, Florence Fry of Spencer and Dorothy Hirth of Lacon, Ill.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 18, 1998)
