Estherville – Funeral services for Douglas Hilburn, 56, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. He died Monday, Dec. 7, at Avera Holy Family Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on June 29, 1942, in Laurens. He was the son of Willis and Margaret [King] Hilburn. He moved with his family to Estherville in 1953. He later began living at the Echo Group home in 1984, where he announced the arrival of the group homes transit bus every morning. Also, he was the first to let the staff know if one of his friends needed help.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Estherville.

He is survived by his brother, Dwight Hilburn of Fairmont, Minn.; two nephews: Jeff Hilburn of Nashville, Tenn.; and Kyle Hilburn of Fairmont, Minn.; two nieces, Lisa Hart of Pratt, Kan.; and Melissa Hilburn of Fairmont, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 8, 1998)
