Services for John J. Hiles, 67, of Terril were held Monday, April 4, 1983, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril with Pastor Norman Wenger officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. The Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Hiles died Thursday, March 31, 1983, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.Hiles was born Aug. 3, 1915, at Oran, the son of Leroy and Minnie (Boling) Hiles. He attended the Gruver schools. On Dec. 3, 1966, he was united in marriage to Alta Peterson at the Lutheran Church in Worthington. He lived in California, Pennsylvania and Iowa. The past five years he had been employed by the City of Terril. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Hiles served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alta of Terril; three stepdaughters, Karla Adams of Federal Way, Wash., Jane Forbes of Visalia, Calif., and Patricia Bellcour of Renton, Wash.; 11 step grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Burl (Celia) Ray of Cypress, Calif., one brother, Jake Hiles of Bellflower, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. (Milford Mail, Milford, IA, April 7, 1983)
